Résumé :
Sonia’s lens often reflects two stories that collide. The one told by the unsuspecting subject and the one distilled by the décor with a rather suspicious insistence. In Sonia’s work, the setting is often an advertisement: a billboard, a text in large characters, a logo or a mural. The décor revamps, announces and makes propaganda. The décor is London, capitalism, the city and its endless invitations to consume admire and desire.
Having set the décor, Sonia captures her subject in an instant during which its attitude, expression, demeanour, attire, gesture, poverty or exuberance render the setting a laughable, funny or revolting lie.
She creates the link between the décor, the context and the subject; and it is in the creation of this absurd, burlesque, sweet or tragic relationship that she allows our enjoyment to exist.
